As the four of us grew up, my mother dropped the tradition of the same number of candles as your age on the birthday cake. (You would think that memory was ingrained on our brains when my dad turned 83, and no, no house burned down).
My mom's new tradition was just Three Candles. Instead of everyone yelling Happy Birthday, we first wished for HEALTH WEALTH HAPPINESS.
